THE FORCED MARCH – The forgotten of the growth
Forgotten by growth, three quarters of the five hundred million Chinese peasants live below the poverty line. Without any money, mere tuition fees become inaccessible.
Coal mining, heavy construction works, factories around the world have become the new El Dorados of these peasants, the Mingongs, fleeing millennial countrysides devastated by industrial pollution.
Exploited and displaced, with no social safety net, this cheap workforce at the mercy of corrupted authorities begins again each day, at the risk of its own life, the “Chinese economic miracle”. View Series
The series was purchased as part of the French National Contemporary Art Fund in November 2007.
In Paris, the exhibition at the Maison des métallos in May and June 2008 attracted more than 6,000 visitors.
A public debate in partnership with Amnesty International raised the issue of migrant workers in China before the Beijing Olympics.
